In terms of location, LX Boutique Hotel doesn’t get much better. Close to both Cais de Sodre train station (gateway to the coastal resorts of Estoril and Cascais) and Bairro Alto – the epicentre of Lisbon nightlife, the hotel provides the perfect boutique base for a city break in Lisbon.
Let’s start with the decor. Just like the Portuguese capital, it’s cool, it’s retro, it’s eclectic. In a nod to Lisbon’s famous Azulejo tiles, the lobby is decked out in cheery printed blue and white wallpaper. A nice how-do-you-do before floors christened with names like “Fado” and “Pessoa”, invite you to immerse yourself in the local culture.

The library on the bedroom wall may be an optical illusion, but guests are also provided with an actual work of Portuguese literature in each room – a nice touch but you might need to brush up on your language skills first…

All rooms come equipped with a flat-screen television, iPod dock, hairdryer and safe. If you wake in time for breakfast (the hotel is close to lots of late bars and clubs so this is never guaranteed…), but if you do, you can enjoy a nice selection of breads, pastries, fruit and cereals downstairs in the hotel’s sometime sushi restaurant Confraria do Sushi. If you try one thing, go for the freshly squeezed orange juice. Yummy.

It is worth bearing in mind that come evening time, Confraria do Sushi is a very popular restaurant in its own right, so booking is recommended if you plan to dine on your doorstep.
Verdict:
Highly recommend monder law if you’re looking for a stylish base from which to explore the beautiful city of Lisbon. Staff are helpful and friendly and the location is hard to beat. There are some great bars within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel too including the super-trendy Pensao Amor which is located just across the street. Taxis to bigger clubs on the Docas including Lux, Urban Beach and OpArt never cost more than a few euro, while the frenetic bars of Bairro Alto can be reached within a short, uphill walk.
